In 1889 Anna M. Stratton came to Spokane Falls to be near her son, the Reverend Howard W. Stratton, and her grandchildren. She left Michigan and went to St. Paul, MN, where she met her son-in-law, J.J. Browne, a Spokane Falls banker. Together they traveled to Washington Territory via the Northern Pacific Railroad. Howard Stratton was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1866 in Ohio, after which he began preaching in Kansas. Reverend Stratton left for Oregon in 1871, where he ministered to the Presbyterian and Congregational churches in Albany, OR.
